Mother Girl

The mother earth feels what is inside of her
because she has given the birth of everything on this land.

Like the mother land,
your mother had you in her.
She felt your heartbeats inside of her.
She had to endure the suffering of separation your heart from her
but then she was overwhelmed with joy
when she held you in her arms.

It was her pleasure to watch your growth and
to be your closest friend whenever you feel happy and sorrow.

Once you have become a mature girl, you should remember
that your mother was a girl like you.
Your mother is still a girl like you and
your mother will want to stay in her girlhood like you.

It is time for you to care about your mother
who may have been forgetting
or even hiding her girlhood
to keep up her end in being your mother.

For this body of work, The Mother Girl,
I have photographed ten couples of
real mother and her daughter.
I have asked each couple to exchange their clothes
and put a long wig on mothers
to help them return to their girlhood.

Mothers were in age of their fifties
and daughters were in their late twenties.
However, to represent history of motherhood,
I chose to photograph my grand mother, mother,
and myself.

Furthermore,
by putting a thirty-year-old mother
and her five-year-old girl
at the end of this series,
I have intended to visualized the mothers
who have yearned for their girlhood
and their destiny
to become a mother of her own girl.

special thanks to...
all my friends and moms who have modeled for this project.
I Love You All.
